Reflecting on Wednesday – Sufi Chant, Meditation, and More

You were expecting to hear from Trish, right?

————–

DYLAN: Trish is on leave. It’s just me, here, in the studio. Trying to bring you thoughts of Wednesday. I want to try something else. So here’s a bunch of thoughts in one line or less with no regard to language or word choice:

Wednesday was really neat.

Every class is really neat.

But this class was extra neat.

Because we took part in Sufi chant.

I had no idea what that was before Wednesday.

It was a privilege to take part in the chant and hear the wisdom that surrounded it.

I like how we worked together earlier in the class, too.

We all have awesome thoughts.

I wish we would make more space for discussions on a single topic.

It is good to have many ideas.

And it is good to come back to these ideas.

It’s part of the Buddhist philosophy which helped design this course.

Though sometimes I feel we build the blocks too quickly.

That we try to connect the dots too fast.

Like how we need to understand each other in order to understand the class.

We need to take more time.

Note to self: chill, explore, and enjoy.

Have an awesome weekend!!

  1. Yes, I like your points, but I wish Trish could have made them for you… I remember Gerard said something in one of the first classes about how, like Buddhism, each lesson contains the whole of everything you need to learn…something like that, and through each repetition, i.e. each lesson/class we relearn the whole, each time gaining further insight. Through each presentation we learn the connection between topics. But I’m sure that’s what Trish would have said…btw who is Trish?

    • TRISH is one of our interns-turned-newscasters. I’ll let her know you missed her, and will ensure she is featured next broadcast.

Side note: I laughed hard at your TRISH comments.

  2. Hi everyone, I like the idea to gather together more and spent time together to get know each other better, and understand. I also want to learn from your perspectives and sharing thoughts and I will try to share mine as much as I can contribute.
    Thank you to everyone,
    Have a great weekend!

  3. I saw on my MSN news feed that Trish was away on some kind of spiritual retreat. Is that true, Dylan? Something about needing to recuperate from stressful working conditions. Can you confirm?

I’m in favour of deeper understanding of one another and more time to connect the dots so that it is authentic dot-connection, rather than just-get-this-done-so-we-can-move-on dot-connection.

    • Trish is retreating, but I fear it is because she works so hard! As for the stressful working conditions… no comment.

      🙂

  4. I am on board with getting together more. I have definitely benefited the most from the face-to-face conversations I’ve had with some (but unfortunately not all) of you. I would love to meet up anytime, even for a quick coffee/bevvy at Veritas in between TAships or readings. I can be on campus pretty much any day and time, so let me know if anyone wants to meet!

    • Maybe we could open the floor to weekly Veritas before Gerard’s class? Even 30 minutes or so, come-if-you’re-able type of thing… Individual meetups are a great idea too!
